courchevel activities
Courchevel has an almost unbelievable number of activities to do either in the daytime, perhaps on a bad weather day, or in the evening if you still have any energy left and feel like a night off the après ski.
Tobogganning
Tobogganning in the Alps is on another level to that enjoyed in England around Christmas time. In Courchevel, there is a dedicated run that is floodlit until 7:30pm, with a lift that you can ride for free with your lift pass, oh, and it’s 2km long. There are also two smaller toboggan runs for younger children.
Hang Gliding
Hang-gliding offers you the unique experience of flying amongst the mountain tops unpowered, with skis on your feet and only the sound of the wind in your ears. The flight generally lasts about ten minutes, and is quite weather dependant.
Hot air ballooning
In Courchevel, there is the rare opportunity to go hot air ballooning, which is offered at very few other resorts, due to the obvious difficulty of controlling the balloon enough to find somewhere good to land. It is very weather dependant, with both wind speed and direction being important, as well as good visibility. However, ballooning in the mountains is a once a lifetime experience not to be missed.
Snow shoeing
Snow shoeing offers the opportunity to trek into remote areas that would never see with skis; all that is required is a reasonable level of fitness. Snow’scool organise night snow shoeing from Courchevel 1650 around the surrounding local area, well away from the pistes and noise. Your guide can teach you all about the local flora and fauna and find unspoilt nature at its best.
Skydiving
Skydiving is an exhilarating experience in the UK, but in the Alps it takes on an extra level of adrenaline as you fall to earth between mountaintops. Due to the Alps having a cooler air temperature, skydiving in Courchevel is only available from mid-March until mid-April, as that is when there are most likely to be suitable good weather days.
Ice skating
Courchevel has an ice rink that was built for the 1992 winter Olympic games. It is open every day from 3pm until 7pm, and on Wednesdays and Fridays, also from 9pm until 11pm. If the weather is bad, the rink often opens earlier. Whether you want to learn a lutz, or just try some turns, what better place could you do it than an Olympic skating rink?
